LEGEND SEAFOOD - FOOD REVIEW
I don't know about yours but my family usually eat out during our mealtimes. Most of the time, we would go to Zi Char places. For me, Zi Char is the closest to home-cooked food. I really like the idea of having many dishes in front of me and that everyone can share the food!
Also, my father is a sucker for Chinese food. Once in a while, I do go cafe hopping with my family (whisper: because they will be the one paying instead of me ><). I do know that deep inside him, he prefers large portion of Chinese food to "that few slices of toast with runny egg” (read: eggs benedict). Most importantly, it is wallet-friendly! No need further explanation about this right?
Legend Seafood is a Zi Char stall situated in the heartlands of Bishan. Other than the usual classics like sweet & sour pork, hotplate tofu, there are also other interesting dishes which are not widely seen in Singapore.
Cheesy Prawn Bee Hoon [$18]
If you find this dish familiar, you must have heard of Malacca’s famous Cheese Bee Hoon. The owner of Legend Seafood personally went to Malacca to try all the famous stalls. (missing link) That's how we get (to try) the cheese bee hoon closest to the real deal! I have not tried the Malacca one before, but I'm really loving the version served at Legend Seafood!
The soup base: OMG it is so creamy! The cheese is not those type of stringy cheese usually served on pizza, so you will not have the jelat feeling. The noodles tastes even better after absorbing the soup base. I took quite some time photographing the other dishes so when I had my second serving, the flavours in the soup went right into the noodles. Now my noodles is 10 times more flavorful!
Barbecued Prawns [$16]
The prawns are coated with this special sauce. It is sweet, salty and very aromatic. The owner said that no one had ever guessed correctly the ingredients put into the sauce! I think you should give it a try and test your taste buds.
Crispy Beancurd with Pork Floss [$12]
You know how much I LOVE hand-made stuff right? Whenever I visit restaurants or cafe, I like to ask if their bread, ice-cream, sauces are handmade. Sadly, most of the time, they are not. However, when I asked the owner of Legend Seafood, he told me that ALL their sauces were made in-house.
“If I used pre-made sauces, my food will taste the same as every other stalls and this does not make it unique.” He said.
This beancurd was hand-made by the chefs too! The fluffy beancurd were fried to perfection with a thin crispy crust. The pork floss and mayo goes really well with the beancurd too!
Steam Fish with Celery [Price by weight]
NEW DISH REGISTERED TO FOOD-DEX! It’s the first time I had fish this way (as i mentioned previously, my family always order teochew style steam fish). The celery was very crunchy, refreshing and goes very well with the fish. This is not the earthy celery you used in juices, so don’t be afraid to try!
Chinese Spinach with 3 kinds of Egg [$8]
A very common yet homely dish with century egg, salted egg and chicken egg. I like how the chicken egg yolk was served raw.
One thing worth mentioning about Legend Seafood is their portion of food is considerably large for a “small dish”. All the food we had are “small” size, yet it is just nice for 6 of us. We usually had to order “medium” size at other places.
Clams with Soup [$12]
In order to have a good clam soup, the clams have to be fresh. Otherwise, the clear soup will accentuate the fishy taste. The one I had was very fresh and plump! The soup has a mild herbal taste to it, great for drizzling over your rice.
Salted Egg Pork Rib [$10]
The dish will talk to you by just staring at it. With the thin layer of fat encasing the pork rib, it looks like it is glowing!
Deep Fried Egg with Oyster [$10]
This is another dish which I have not tried before! The egg was fried to a beautiful golden brown without being too oily. When it's freshly served, the egg was very light, airy and crispy. However, don't leave it standing for too long as it will turn soggy and I'm sure you don't want that to happen.

All in all, Legend Seafood is definitely a keeper. I can foresee myself visiting them often for my family dinner! Although Legend Seafood might not be easily accessible through public transport, but the food will make up for the time you spent travelling here. If you’re travelling by car, there's loads of parking lots nearby!
