SODcafe - Food Review
Ci Yuan Community Centre might be familiar to you, but have you noticed the cafe located right at its entrance? When I first went there, SODcafe's minimalistic signboard and their faux red brick wall caught my attention right away!
When the food arrived, I knew I had to share this place with you guys! I quickly snapped a few short videos before digging in!
After 1 week, I was back at SODcafe to try out more items on their menu.
SOD Milk Tea with Black Pearls [$4.50]
I was curious so I asked the owner of SODcafe - Thomas Tan, 20, where he got the idea of using a dropper for the sugar syrup. The idea was actually from his dad! I really liked the fact that they served us the milk tea without adding sugar. Some people preferred 30% sugar, while some liked 70%. So, having a choice, everyone was satisfied! ^^ Furthermore, I had fun playing with the dropper. HAHA
Summer Fruit SOD Tea [$6.50]
Besides their milk tea, the Summer Fruit SOD Tea is also their signature drink. SOD stands for "Super Oxide Dismutase", an important antioxidant defence. Thus, enriched with minerals, this tea is really good for you! It is not only refreshing, but also perfect for the hot Singapore weather.
There is also a slice of lime in the ice cubes which infused fresh lime juice and flavour into the drink when the ice has melted! Interesting right?
Truffle Infused Fish Burger $13.50
I love this! The fish fillet is very moist and tender, which is complemented with a very soft bun. I also liked the fact that they serve sweet potato fries on the side, unlike normal french fries!
Sweet Potato Fries [$5.50]
White Chocolate Rainbow Cake [$7.50]
Can you resist a gorgeous slice of fluffy rainbow cake? Because I can't! This brightly coloured layer cake with white chocolate ganache is freshly baked in-house! However, if you do not have a sweet tooth, this might be too sweet for your liking. :)
How can I not take a picture with such a beautiful cake?
Chef Salad [$8.50]
Spaghetti Aglio Olio [$13.50]
This dish was highly recommended by my aunt, who went to SODcafe after watching my video! She loved it but said the dish was quite spicy for her. However, when I tried it myself, I thought it was not spicy at all! Comment down below how you feel about the spicy level after trying it out for yourself? Nonetheless, it is still yummy!
Smoked Duck Spaghetti [$9.50]
The noodle base tasted very similar to the Aglio Olio (cooked al-dente) but with an added poached egg, bonito flakes and smoked duck. The bonito flakes complement the noodles, giving it a slightly salty yet unique taste. Great fusion between Japanese and Italian cuisine!
Latte [$4.50]
The cafe uses coffee beans that are quality Arabica beans from Brazil. The cookies are also handmade by them!
Chicken Supreme [$9.50]
Ordered this again because it is so yummy! With a bed of soft potatoes, juicy chicken and special cheese sauce, it is something I'll order any time.
Zesty Lime Fizzy Fruit Soda [$4.50]
Charcoal Waffles a la mode (with my choice salted caramel ice-cream) [$7.50]
If you're a follower of mine, you would know I absolutely LOVE WAFFLES! The charcoal taste is quite distinct, unlike all the other charcoal waffles I tried elsewhere. This waffle is fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside.
Homemade Waffles a la mode (with my choice strawberry cheesecake ice-cream) [$7.50]
Texture-wise, I would prefer the charcoal one as this is crispier and more airy. (which is not my preferred choice)
Note: Both waffles come with a scoop of premium ice-cream of your choice. Ice-cream flavours change frequently!
Churros with Cinnamon Sugar [$7.50]
SPOT THE CUTE BARREL FILLED WITH CHOCOLATE! Cute things that are insta-worthy are definitely my weakness. The churros were freshly fried, very soft yet crispy and not heavily coated with cinnamon sugar!
Throughout my whole meal there (weekend, 7.30pm - 8.30pm) there was a constant queue. So I would recommend making a reservation to avoid waiting during peak hours! SODcafe also offers delivery through a third-party apps - foodpanda & deliveroo. If you're too lazy to travel to the cafe, this is a good option.
