CANTALOUPE - Fine Dining under $50 in Kuala Lumpur

I love dining with experience, especially with good food. As Cantaloupe is a restaurant located at the level 23A of The Troika tower B, we get a clear view of both the Petronas Twins Tower and KL Tower. In Singapore, you can never experience an 8 course fine dining, with gorgeous view at such an affordable price!

My family ordered this RM120++ (SGD$45) 8 course set menu. There are different menu with different price range for both lunch and dinner so do go to their website to check out what's best for you! Their menu changes every month so what I ate may not be what you get when you dine with them. However, I believe the standard of food will be around the same.

Asparagus

Salted egg yolk, shallots, tomato, shaved parmesan, mushroom custard

Crunchy asparagus, creamy custard and salty salted egg yolk. A great mixture of different mouthfeel and taste profiles in a single dish!

Scallop

Burnt pickled onion, fish velouté, green herb oil, pea sprouts, petit pois

The pickled onion kinda overwhelmed the scallop and it lose the main focus of it. Also, the fish velouté was served quite cold.

Wagyu

Wagyu tartare, crispy beef, kiwi gel, garlic dust

This is actually the first time I tried a tartare so I'm not very sure sure what makes a good steak tartare. It taste good though!

Roselle

Roselle granita, lemon basil soda

A very refreshing frozen dessert as our palate cleanser! If you're wondering what is the purpose of a palate cleanser, I googled it for you:

Palate cleansers are used to remove food residuals in your mouth and neutralize your taste buds. Cleansing your palate between entree bites, food courses or beverage sips may enhance your culinary experience by eliminating competing flavors.

Foie Gras

Seared foie gras, roasted parsnip, parsnip puree, truffle infused honey, cured duck

This was my favourite dish of the meal! Foie gras was seared to perfection and the hint of sweetness from the truffle infused honey complements it so well! And as the foie gras was so small, you won't feel jelak eating it at all!

Octopus & Fish

Grilled octopus, butter poached seabass, purple cabbage broth, salmon roe

Hmmm... Would prefer if the fish was cod instead of seabass as the texture wasn't that good. The purple cabbage broth was very unique though. The bright colour made the white seabass stands out.

Hazelnut

Hazelnut and milk chocolate cigar

Our pre-dessert was this biscuit filled with chocolate hazelnut cream! Love it so much.

Almond Jelly

Roasted almond jelly, white chocolate cream, dehydrated vanilla sponge, almond pralines, raspberry

I really like how Cantaloupe loves to play with textures! Soft, fluffy and sweet cream, crunchy pralines, sour raspberries and very jiggly jelly! What a cute dessert to end our 8 course dinner with a sweet note.

Opening Hours Dining Room 18:30 to 22:30 (last orders)

Address: Level 23A, Tower B The Troika 19 Persiaran KLCC 50450 KL

Tel: +603 2162 0886

All in all, I would highly recommend this place if you had the chance to go to KL for a short trip! It is definitely something different from all the Malaysia local food. However, do note that if you're a big eater, this meal may not be filling for you. Overall rating: 8.5/10
